This story should've been the best in this (so far) surprisingly good trilogy, but unfortunately it tanked. Big time.

Something just didn't click for me. Maybe it had to do with the pacing, extremely slow and uneventful compared to the previous two books. Maybe it had to do with the heroine, who was whiny and rather wimpy for a big-animal veterinarian and rancher's wife. Maybe it had to do with the lack of chemistry between the hero and heroine. I don't know, maybe it was the combo of everything mentioned, I just didn't "feel" it.
And the "mastermind" handyman-turned-villain had too little on-screen time (and when he did appear his quest for revenge seemed a little too far-fetched to be believable) to make things interesting.

The only saving grace were Carolyn and Burke, and Fiona and Jesse, the protagonists from the previous two books in this trilogy, that kept things lively and imbued the story with that much-needed he/she chemistry.

I loved the epilogue, though, and it's pinch of humor at the end. Wished it was longer, and maybe focused a little more on the other couple. 😉

A disappointing finale to the Carlisle family trilogy.
