Review: The Silver Coin by Andrea Kane

Title: The Silver Coin
Series: Colby's Coin
Author: Andrea Kane
Read copy: Mass Market Paperback
Published: September 1, 1999
Publisher: Sonnet Books
ISBN: 067103409X
ISBN-13: 9780671034092

Now, in this dazzling sequel to The Gold Coin, the suspenseful tale of two beautiful cousins, so alike even their own family mistakes them, so enmeshed in a web of deceit that their very lives are at risk, continues....

All her life, Breanna Colby has lived on the precipice of fear, her only joy the recent reunion with her beloved cousin Anastasia. With her violent father now locked away in jail, the repressed young woman can emerge from her cocoon and pursue all the joys she's been denied. But she finds—to her terror—that not all the shadows have lifted, and an evil from the past stalks both her and Anastasia. When authorities are unable to help with this assassin lurking in the darkness, the Colbys turn to the brilliant, unconventional Royce Chadwick, England's foremost expert on finding people who don't want to be found.

Hard, detached Royce has always been a loner who operates by his own set of rules. He has little patience for weakness. Delicate Breanna Colby is an eye-opener to him, for beneath her fragile exterior ties a core of steel. As the two face overwhelming danger side by side, Royce discovers a woman he never dreamed existed—one who, despite his cynicism, he is losing his heart to. But their future together can never be—not unless Royce kills the assassin before the assassin kills them.

Review: A Kiss From Kringle by Rhian Cahill

Title: A Kiss From Kringle
Series: Frosty's Snowmen
Author: Rhian Cahill
Read copy: eBook (Kindle)
Published: December 1, 2015
Publisher: Escape Publishing
ASIN: B017SGBKE8

For a man called Chris Kringle, Christmas is the most magical time of the year. But this year, there’s something about a certain elf that’s grabbed his attention in the best of ways.

Leah Ward didn’t start the day intending to be an elf in Santa’s Village, but to help her sister she’d do anything, including an impersonation and squeezing into a too-tight elf suit. But Leah didn’t count on the boss discovering her deception—or that he’d be enchanted by it. She certainly didn’t count on Chris deciding all his future kisses would belong to her.

A firm believer in Christmas magic, Chris knows the sparks that fly when he meets Leah are the once-in-a-lifetime kind, and he sees no point in wasting any time. All he has to do is convince a soft-hearted cynic that all magic is real—and that Christmas magic is the most powerful of all.

Review: Christmas in Venice (or The Italian's Christmas Bride) by Joanne Walsh

Let it snow...?

Wasn’t she supposed to dream of a white Christmas? Right now, Ashlynne wishes the blizzards, ice and fog that have left her stranded in Venice would melt away. She’s facing a dreary holiday stuck at the airport—and she’s also run into her ex-husband.

Lorenzo di Grechi insists Ashlynne stay with him at his sumptuous palazzo apartment. He’s also promising her Christmas Venetian-style: eating, drinking, and visiting the seasonal markets and musical concerts that make the city so enchanting at this time of year.

She thought she’d moved on: laid the ghosts of their marriage which had ended so sadly and badly to rest, along with how passionately she’d loved him. But the sexual attraction between them is still as potent as ever, and he seems to have changed for the better, forcing her to question her belief that he’d cheated on her at a time when she’d needed him most.

Is this just some sort of Christmas magic at work? Or a real chance to forgive and rediscover her love for Lorenzo?

It's official—for Juliette Connolly Christmas is a bust and she's definitely not in the spirit of Christmas. She's been dumped by her boyfriend and replaced by a younger model. Then a clause in her contract means she and a mysterious colleague have to work over Christmas. But there's much more to Andrew Campbell than meets the eye. Especially when it turns out he's the Scottish Laird of the haunted house they're filming in.

And it seems like there's magic in the air in the remote snow-filled setting. The local village contains a cast of Christmas characters and even though the boiler in the drafty house is broken the temperature is definitely rising.

Maybe Andrew and Juliette are about to be sprinkled with a little Christmas fairy dust?
