An honorable man driven by the need for retribution...

Caleb O'Halleran is a Tactical K9 Specialist with the FBI's elite Hostage Rescue Team. Finding the traitor responsible for his K9 partner’s death is the only thing that matters...until he meets an enchanting, strong-willed doctor.

A noble doctor determined to help others...

Dr. Dawn Pannikos is a busy ER doctor with a surly teenage sister to raise and a past that has taught her not to trust love. Falling for an irresistibly charming ladies' man with shadows around his heart was never part of her plan and it scares the hell out of her.

When Dawn and her sister become prisoners of a psychopathic cult leader, they are plunged into the middle of a dangerous FBI operation. Will Caleb and his new K9 partner, Jake, get to them in time, or will he be too late to save the woman who owns his heart?

My rating:

Training on the West coast with his new K9 dog, Caleb O'Halleran is more than happy to spend his off time with his older brother and his wife, even if that means attending a charity event. But, as luck would have it, on said charity event, Caleb meets his sister-in-law's friend, the most beautiful woman he's ever seen...And promptly shoves his foot in his mouth.

So now, he has his work cut out for him. Convince Dr. Dawn Pannikos to go out with him even though he knows he will soon have to go back to work, avenge his dead canine partner and bring down a cult.

This might not have been as good as its predecessor, mostly because it lacked that perfect mix and balance between romance and suspense, but it was still better than most RS out there.

That's not to say the romance or suspense wasn't good, it just didn't mesh up that well. The first half of the story concentrated on the blossoming romance between former ladies' man Caleb and skittish-about-love-for-very-good-readson ER doc, Dawn. Throw in Dawn's younger sister heavy on teenage angst, Luna, Caleb's K9 partner, Jake, their job and training, and several time jumps, and the romance wasn't what it could've been.
Yes, it was sweet and hot, heavy on the make-out, but the fact he had to leave and Dawn thought she broke up with him, put a damper on things.

The suspense was also good, both the domestic terrorism angle and the pedophile cult leader one, but it came to the fore only toward the end of the story, with a tad too little momentum and "appearances" at the beginning, so it felt like a separate plot, while the main story arc appeared to be Caleb and Dawn.

Still, the action scenes, once the proverbial crap hit the fan, were top notch and nail-biting, I loved the humorous insertions here and there, and the characters were once more realistic characters one can root for and empathize with, helping drive the story forward.

Looking forward to what happens next.
