A Harper has always lived at Harper House, the centuries-old mansion just outside of Memphis. And for as long as anyone alive remembers, the ghostly Harper Bride has walked the halls, singing lullabies at night...
Hayley Phillips came to Memphis hoping for a new start, for herself and her unborn child. She wasn't looking for a handout from her distant cousin Roz, just a job at her thriving In the Garden nursery.
What she found was a home surrounded by beauty and the best friends she's ever had—including Roz's son Harper. To Hayley's delight, her new daughter Lily has really taken to him. But to Hayley's chagrin, she has begun to dream about Harper—as much more than a friend.
If Hayley gives in to her desire, she's afraid the foundation she's built with Harper will come tumbling down. Especially since she's begun to suspect that her feelings are no longer completely her own.
Flashes of the past and erratic behavior make Hayley believe that the Harper Bride has found a way inside of her mind and body. It's time to put the Bride to rest once and for all, so Hayley can know her own heart again—and whether she's willing to risk it...
My rating:
Hayley Phillips has found a home, a dream job, a family, close-knit friendships she moved to Tennessee. Now, one of those friendships is turning into love, but as Hayley gets closer and closer to Harper Ashby, the Harper Bride, the ghost that's been haunting the Harper house for decades, starts worming herself into Hayley's mind...
A rather disappointing conclusion to the trilogy. I can't really put my finger to what made me feel that way, I just didn't enjoy this one as I did the previous ones.
The characters were wonderful, their connections strong and true, the romance was the epitome of slow burn, since they had two books to get to know and like each other...I guess I was disappointed with the delivery. The ghost was rather absent, except for a few brief haunting episodes when the romance started blossoming, so the final "saturation" with her and the conclusion of her story seemed rather rushed.
And too much of the story was focused on the garden business...the propagation, the hybridization...I'm not that big of a fan of horticulture, so I'm just not interested, yet those annoying and too long passages describing gardening processes in minute details jarringly stopped the flow of the story, making for rather boring reading.
