In the heart of the Rockies
In the arms of a cowboy
One white Christmas can change everything.

When firefighter and single dad Steve Springfield moved his four kids to a Colorado Christmas tree ranch, he intended for it to be a safe haven. But he never expected danger to follow them to his childhood home...

Or that he would come face-to-face with the one girl he could never forget.

Folk artist Camille Brandt lives a quiet life. As the town's resident eccentric, she's used to being lonely—until Steve freaking Springfield changes everything. Brave and kind, he's always had a piece of her heart, and it doesn't take long before she's in danger of falling for him and his rambunctious kids. But as mysterious fires break out across the sleepy Colorado town, Steve and Camille will have to fight if they want their happy family to survive until Christmas...

My rating:

When Steve Springfield relocated his family for the second time in only a few months, he thought his hometown would be safe from killers and criminals...Unfortunately, he didn't count with the safety of his own heart, as an old highschool acquaintance sparks the embers of passion and love his long ago though extinguished.

But someone obviously doesn't want Steve to have a second chance at happily-ever-after, and that someone is apparently willing to resort to drastic measures to be noticed...

Ooh, another great story from the pen/keyboard of Katie Ruggle.

Sure, the heroine was rather similar to another before her with her eccentricities and hermit-like behavior, and her quirkiness and social awkwardness got a little stale toward the end, but it provided laughter and smiles, so I'm happy.
The hero remained quite a mystery through the entire proceedings as the story focused more on the heroine growing into her butterfly wings, but still, the romance worked rather nicely without the dreaded feelings of rush and haste.

The secondary characters also provided some comic relief (although Camille's nosy and gossipy neighbor was an annoying menace and the lack of resolution on the front of "slut-shaming" left a little hole in the story), Steve's children were wonderfully perfect, and the suspense was intriguing, keeping the reader guessing with a few misleads and a big red-herring thrown into the mix.
I certainly didn't see the real "villain" coming, although I felt his motive was a tad too far fetched.

If this really turns out to be a series (as advertised), I'm looking forward to more.
