Oh, wow. I've been disappointed by Ms. Donovan's Her Last Line of Defense, but this beauty more than compensated for that dud.
After a few years of self-imposed exile, Cara Sokol returns to Greece to pay a visit to her ailing friend Athena on the "magical" island of Aphrodisias.
Certainly not looking for a summer fling, she is in for a huge surprise in the form (and bulk) of one Yannis Petrides, the resident Adonis with piercing blue eyes, and sudden hots for the elusive American tourist.
This was the epitome of every summer fling out there. We all wish to find a sexy "native" to sweep us off our feet during out vacation...And if things lead to more, so much better.
Well, Yannis was that and so much more. He was romantic, charming, and sexy, he smelled good even covered with seat after working at a construction site, he was affectionate, etc. And compared to other Greeks (all Greeks from Cara's point of view), he didn't kiss and tell. Just what the doctor ordered for closed-up Cara.
She's been badly burned in her brief marriage to a Greek tycoon, severely endangering her health, and now lived like a true Greek widow, wearing black and an almost perpetual scowl. Needless to say, the Greek climate, the romantic island environment, some meddling from her friends, and a hefty dose of Yannis opened her right up.
A wonderful, light, carefree, beach read (and re-read, and re-read...). A keeper! Two thumbs up and 4 ½ stars.
